The usual replacement dosages of these glucocorticoids are : hydrocortisone about 25 mg/day, cortisone acetate about 37.5 mg/day, prednisone about 5 mg/day, and dexamethasone about 0.5 mg/day. Glucocorticoid replacement in any patient must be carefully monitored and individualized.
Cortisone is used in the treatment of bursitis; ankylosing spondylitis; osteoarthritis; adrenal insufficiency; sarcoidosis (and ), and belongs to the drug class glucocorticoids. FDA has not classified the drug for risk during pregnancy. Cortisone 25 mg is not a controlled substance under the Controlled Substance Act (CSA).
